How the Primary with Early Years (3-7) SCITT programme works

The programme combines school-centred training, practical experience, and professional development. You will complete two main placements, typically one in Early Years and one in KS1, working alongside experienced mentors and lead mentors who provide guidance, support, and challenge.

Centre-based training balances educational theory with practical classroom application. You will develop teaching techniques, subject knowledge, and strategies to engage young learners effectively. Training includes lesson planning, assessment, inclusion, and progression to ensure readiness to take full responsibility for a class.

Trainees begin with small group teaching, progress to parts of lessons, then full lessons, sequences of learning, and finally whole-class responsibility. Professional learning conversations and reflection are embedded throughout to support autonomy and professional growth.
