How the Design and Technology SCITT programme works
The Design and Technology SCITT blends school placements, centre-based training, and subject-specific development. You will complete two main teaching placements in our partner schools across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and Somerset, with occasional placements in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Each trainee is supported by a dedicated Mentor and a Lead Mentor who guide progress and provide feedback throughout the year.
Your teaching responsibilities build step by step. You will begin with small group work, move on to teaching parts of lessons, and gradually progress to teaching full lessons and sequences of learning. By the end of the programme, you will take full responsibility for classes. Intensive school-based practice weeks and regular professional discussions help you connect theory with practice. Subject-specific training, led by expert teachers, focuses on pedagogy, planning, and building strong knowledge across the breadth of Design and Technology.
