How the English SCITT programme works
The English SCITT combines school-centred training with subject-specific and professional development. You will complete two teaching placements in our partner schools across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and Somerset, with occasional placements in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
Each trainee is supported by a dedicated Mentor and Lead Mentor, who provide guidance, feedback, and challenge throughout the year. Your teaching responsibilities will build gradually, from small groups to whole-class teaching and eventually leading full sequences of learning. Intensive practice weeks and subject-focused sessions ensure strong links between theory and classroom practice.
Expert subject tutors deliver specialist English training, exploring pedagogy, subject knowledge, and strategies to support pupil progress across Key Stages 3–5. Centre-based sessions provide the evidence-based theory you’ll apply in school with the support of mentors and colleagues.
