How the Music SCITT programme works
The Music SCITT is a unique partnership between the Cabot Learning Federation, Bristol Beacon, Cathedral Schools Trust, Five Counties SCITT, and leading national music makers. Together, we deliver an innovative programme designed to develop talented musicians into confident, inspiring teachers.
You’ll complete two teaching placements in our partner schools across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, and Somerset, with occasional placements in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Mentors and Lead Mentors provide expert guidance throughout, helping you progress from working with small groups to taking full responsibility for classes.
Centre-based training combines educational theory, subject-specific pedagogy, and evidence-based practice. You will build your knowledge of music theory, performance, and genres, while also learning how to teach singing, instrumental skills, and classroom composition. The programme includes opportunities to connect with Bristol’s vibrant music community and to explore music from diverse cultural backgrounds, strengthening your own repertoire and teaching approaches.
